If you want to waste $69 and then purchase another one of the French courses in this review then Transparent French is for you. THE BOTTOM LINE
A good friend of mine once said, “you buy cheap you buy twice”. And as hard as they try Transparent French cannot hide the fact that they are operating on a budget to compensate for the low price of their French course. At $69.00 it is the cheapest of the French programs in this review. What struck me about Transparent was that their website, the tool that is supposed assure me that I am making the right purchase, was littered with… bad English! Their sales copy is a litany of run on sentences and erratic punctuation! As someone with some ecommerce experience it was immediately evident to me that they either a) outsourced the writing on their website to the lowest bidder or b) aren’t native English speakers themselves. Either way, it’s a really bad sign that the people who are supposed to teach me a foreign language can’t speak English themselves! But enough about their shoddy marketing, we’re here to talk about their French program. Curious and amused I purchased their flagship product “Learn French Now! Version 1.0″. They only offer hard copy CD-ROM software so my package arrived a week later. Disappointingly their product was ok… a far cry from the train-wreck I thought it would be. Their French lessons are comprised of a combination of video (that can double as audio and put in your MP3 player) games and quizzes. They make a good effort but I was too distracted by the plastic acting to learn any French. And the odd mistake arises here and there… just enough for me to jab at their professionalism. All in all Transparent French can’t hold a candle to the Big 3 (Power Glide, Rocket French and Rosetta Stone). Though it is the cheapest of the products in this review you get what you pay for. If your goal is to learn French and you’re on a budget I would highly recommend Rocket French since it is a stellar value at $99.00 and does what it says it will –> gets you speaking French!
